INTRODUCTORY CLASS 2 hours Materials fee: $TBA

What plugs into what and what happens? This is a great class to find out how to use basic equipment for recording, mixing, microphones & leads, OH & Safety issues, working as a roadie. No experience is required to be in this class. This class will get you out of trouble in learning all the basics. Note-taking from participants is expected, written assignments and practical tests will take place.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS Materials fee: $TBA 2 hours

Follow on from the introductory class, although you don’t need to do the introductory class to be enrolled in this class. Looking at more in-depth knowledge of recording, mixing, and equipment, OH & Safety Issues, Advanced Roadie work, visiting local recoding studios etc.. Some previous knowledge is required. Note-taking from participants is expected, written assignments and practical tests will take place.

ADVANCED CLASS Materials fee: $TBA 2 hours

Follow on from the Intermediate class. More serious look into Audio Design, its equipment, recording and mixing, miking up a live band and in the studio. The opportunity to visit a recording studio’s and seeing first hand how it happens. Advice on setting up your own home studio. OH & Safety issues. Some previous knowledge is required. Note-taking from participants is expected, written assignments and practical tests will take place.

Lecturer: Deb Morcom & guests 2 hours Grade 8—Adults Materials Fee: $TBA This is an ideal course for those who want to know HOW THEY DO IT! We will be looking into the mysteries of behind special effects in films and other unclear things. Also how Animation, dramatic, sci-fi, period, early Australian/international films etc... evolved. Comparing and reviewing the methods used. Looking at studying and viewing certain films, Directors, and other behind the scenes people. Note-taking and written assignments are expected. This is mainly a theory subject and viewing course. An in-house certificate will be issued to all participants who meet the criteria. Class times may need to be extended on occasion for the viewing of films.

FILM & MEDIA PRODUCTION SKILLS Lecturer: Deb Morcom 2 hours High School—Grade 7-10 Materials fee: $TBA

This is the hands-on component to the film studies. We now have a go at doing it! Participants will be learning how to use the video & broadcast cameras, editing, researching, scriptwriting, and participate in at least a minimal of one project. This class is aimed at beginners with some small amount of previous knowledge. An in-house certificate will be issued to all participants who meet the criteria.

ADVANCED ACTING SKILLS 2 hours Grade 11, 12 & Adults Pre-requisites—Audition towards University Entrance (UTAS)

Materials fee: $TBA This course is ideal for those who wish to seriously study acting at a higher level. Some of the content that will be covered: Auditioning Skills, Techniques and Styles, Voice Production, Street Theatre, Stage & Film Acting, and building a library of resources and many other areas. Trinity College London offers graded and diploma assessments which we encourage all members of this class to undertake but it is not compulsory.

DRAMA CLUB 1.5 hours Grade 3-6 Grade 7-10 Lecturer: Michael Tokarski, Deb Morcom & guests. Materials Fee: $ TBA

This course is designed to introduce and further skills already learnt in drama activities at school. Here you will learn many skills as a performer in a range of performing styles. For example, Street Theatre, Musical Theatre singing & acting, speech, write plays and easy music skills, comedy, presentation, Basic stage management skills, OH & Safety issues, film & live stage study of performances, strategies in stage fighting and movement, reviews, critiquing, etc… Note-taking, written assignments, reviews are expected in this class. Trinity College London offers graded and diploma assessments which we encourage all members of this class to undertake but it is not compulsory.

PRESENTATION SKILLS 1.5 hours Suitable for Grade 6 students to Adults.

Lecturer: Deb Morcom & guests. Materials fee: $TBA Presenting yourself as an actor, musician or just yourself for a job interview, there is an art of selling yourself to prospective employers. It could be the way you dress, speak, stand, move, or appear in the eyes of other people who hold the key to your success towards employment.

JAZZ STUDIES 2 hours Ideal class for Grade 7 to Adults of any instrument. Beginner Class, Intermediate Class & Advance Class Lecturer: Deb Morcom & guests. BEGINNER CLASS Materials fee: $TBA

Ideal class for those musicians who have not played jazz music, improvised or studied jazz in any form. Participants will be learning to perform jazz music correctly, improvise on basic chord progressions, basic jazz theory, viewing and listening to famous musicians & bands via recordings and film. An in-house certificate for those who have participated in class and show some improvement during the term. From 2007, the opportunity for some instrumentalists to look at the new jazz assessments through Trinity College London.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS A & B Material fee: $TBA

Follow on from the beginner class. A little more in-depth look at jazz music, improvisation, jazz theory, and continuation of looking at famous musicians and bands via recordings and film. Participants need to be able to read music, play some scales and chord progressions, be keen to improvise and some note-taking and homework is required. An in-house certificate for those who have participated in class and show some improvement during the term. From 2007, the opportunity for some instrumentalists to look at the new jazz assessments through Trinity College London.

ADVANCE CLASS Material fee: $TBA

Follow on from the intermediate class. Participants must be reading music and improvising at a minimum of Grade 5 examination level. More advanced understanding of jazz theory, arranging and composing techniques, play all major and minor scales, majority of chord progressions. Note-taking, compositions, arrangement assignments are expected to successfully complete this course. Successful students can use this class as a pre-requisite to university music courses. An in-house certificate for those who have participated in class and show some improvement during the term. From 2007, the opportunity for some instrumentalists to look at the new jazz assessments through Trinity College London.

MUSICAL THEATRE CLASSES Suitable for 7 years upwards. Primary class (Grade 3-6) (1.5 hour class) High School Class (Grade 7 –10) (3 hour class taken in 2 x 1.5 hours) College/Adult Class. (3 hour class taken in 2 x 1.5 hours)

Lecturer: Deb Morcom Materials fee: TBA Musical theatre classes involve the integration of drama, music and choreographed movement. It is here we learn to Act, Sing and Dance all at once and develop so much enthusiasm and enjoyment from it. Participants will also be learning about: · Audition Skills and Techniques. · Rehearsal Skills. · Occupational Health & Safety issues as a performer. · History of musicals. · People behind the scenes and their roles. · Basic stage management skills. · Studying & viewing some musicals. · Famous writers of musicals. · Preparing a short musical for presentation to an audience. · Preparation towards a musical theatre assessment through Trinity College London, either solo, pair or group. · Some basic note-taking and project work to undertake, learning and memorizing of songs, dialogue and basic movement will be required. PRE-SCHOOL PERFORMANCE CLASS 1 Hour Ages 3-4 Materials fee: $

Ideal fun class to introduce young ones to music and drama skills. Children will be playing instruments, singing, dancing, acting, storytelling, dress-ups, puppets, games and much more to help them gain confidence in participation with others, sharing, making new friends and having fun with their parents.

KINDER PERFORMANCE CLASS 1 Hour Ages 4-5 Materials fee: $

Kindergarten children can enjoy further musical play with the addition to drama skills they already learn at school. Children will be playing instruments, singing, dancing, acting, storytelling, dress-ups, puppets, games and much more to help them gain confidence in participation with others, sharing, making new friends and having loads of fun. Classes are available with or without parents in attendance.

INFANT PERFORMANCE CLASSES 1 Hour Prep-Grade 2 Materials fee: $

Infant school children can enjoy further musical play with the addition to drama skills they already learn at school. Children will be playing instruments, singing, dancing, acting, storytelling, dress-ups, puppets, games and much more to help them gain confidence in participation with others, sharing, making new friends and having loads of fun. SPECIAL NEEDS PERFORMANCE CLASSES Lecturer: Deb Morcom and special guests 1.5 hours Any age or disability.

Carers need to accompany. Materials fee: $TBA Combining Music and Drama skills together in a fun and educational learning environment at our own pace. We will be learning to make props, puppets, clowning, comedy, story-telling, dress-ups, acting, playing instruments, listening to music and putting on our own concerts. Most of all having lots of fun.

SIGHT-READING SKILLS 1 hour Preliminary (Grade .5 to 2) Level A (Grade 2.5 to 4.5), Level B (Grade 5—7) Level C (Grade 7.5—Diploma) Lecturer: Deb Morcom and guests. Materials fee: $TBA

Sight-reading classes are open to all musicians of any age who would like to improve their skill in sight-reading new music. Throughout the term, participants will be learning to sight read different styles of music as a group, in pairs and as a soloist. This class has an internal assessment and is a natural progression to other music classes and ensemble classes offered. A certificate of participation will be presented to those who have succeeded the necessary requirements of improvement throughout the class. All music supplied.

RHYTHM & AURAL SKILLS CLASS 1 hour Suitable for all ages. Beginner, Intermediate & Advance level.

Lecturer: Deb Morcom & guests. Materials fee: $TBA This class is ideal for percussionists, drummers and all musicians who have trouble with playing and reading rhythmic notation. Plenty of opportunity to explore and understand rhythm reading, body percussion exercises, non-melodic percussion playing, composing, and tuning your listening skills in aural awareness activities as well. Lots of fun and educational learning in an hour.

TEACHER—PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

These workshops and classes are offered to all practising and qualified teachers in performing arts. TPA Centre will organise special days with other specialised people in all different areas of the performing arts to host workshops. We are open to hear from people who would like certain professional development in particular areas. Please register your interest and ideas soon. All schools and those on the mailing list will be notified of upcoming professional development days.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DIPLOMAS 3 Hours Minimum age: 18 years Meet every three weeks. Lecturer: Deb Morcom & guests Materials fee: $TBA

This is an ideal class for early preparation to University education, music and drama courses. These classes are designed as guidance towards those who wish to get into teaching whether privately or school teaching. Both Drama and music training is given. Some of the following skills will be looked into: basic understanding of conducting, instrumentation, arranging and composing, rehearsal procedures, stage management, audio, basic OH & S issues, plus much more preparation in performing, and teaching. Mostly individual preparation towards assessments and examinations from either Ausmusic or Trinity College London will be the basis of this course, as well as university preparation. More detailed syllabuses are available at the TPA Centre free of charge.

ROCK INDUSTRY STUDIES 1.5 hours Lecturer: Deb Morcom & guests. Materials fee: $TBA

Introductory—Any instrument. Grade 7 to Adults. Looking at the contemporary music scene internationally, nationally and local. Viewing and studying documentaries of famous rock icons and their music, understanding and analysing their music, and the legacy they leave behind. Some written work is required. No experience required. Preparation towards an early Rockschool exam or similar will also be part of the term’s programme. Intermediate—Any instrument Grade 8 to Adults. Follow on to the introductory course. Learning to understand and read TAB, rock music forms, composing and arranging songs, some written work required. Preparation towards a VET/Ausmusic accreditation is available. Preparation towards an early Rockschool exam or similar will also be part of the term’s programme.

Advanced—Any Instrument Grade 10 to Adults. Follow on from the Intermediate course. Participants must be a minimum of a Grade 4 level on their instrument, higher understanding of reading, analysis of music and composing. Preparation towards a VET/Ausmusic accreditation is available. Some instrumentalists will be preparing towards a Rockschool exam on their instrument/voice.

GENERAL MUSIC CLASSES 1.5 hrs Lecturer: Deb Morcom & guests No experience required. Ideal for getting back into learning music again. Grade 3-6, Grade 7-9, Grade 10-12 & Adults Materials fee: $TBA

This is an ideal class for home schoolers and those who wish to learn and update their skills in music. In this course we will be learning an assortment of skills which will differ in each ‘age’ group. Generally part of the content of each term will cover basic theory, movement, rhythm skills, aural raining, conducting, history, contemporary, instrument playing, sight-reading, educational music games, composing, arranging, singing, and much more. All participants will need to co-operate with class members and share their ideas and skills and learn together new ways of incorporating these class activities in everyday life.

ENSEMBLE CLASSES, CONCERT BAND & STRING ENSEMBLE Ensemble: minimal of 5 persons/Concert Band: Minimum of 15. Minimal of 3 months competent playing. Participants will be auditioned. Vary between 1 hour to 2.5 hours. Consult the TPA Centre for details. ·

This is a hands on class of behind-the-scenes of theatre and film production. Identifying all the different careers available and their job descriptions. Opportunity to learn proper procedure of being a stage manager and organising a stage management manual for productions, calling the show, OH & Safety issues and hands-on practicum on working on an in-house production. etc.. Optional to be assessed via a VET Certificate, but to your advantage if so.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS 1 hour Minimal age 9 to Adults Lecturer:TBA. Materials fee: $TBA

This course focuses on life skills which include the ability to speak in public, interact with other people better and express ideas in work and leisure situations. Learning to speak clearly and with clarity and learning to listen and organise how to speak in coherent ways. Overcoming stage fright, using vocal and facial and or movement expression, utterance, distinguishing between informative and persuasive speaking and demonstrate good interpersonal skills. Trinity College London offers graded and diploma assessments which we encourage all members of this class to undertake.

THEATRE CRAFTS 2 hours Lecturer: Deb Morcom

For those people who are talented, creative and artistic with their hands in building and creating things, this course is for you. We will be building and designing sets, costumes, properties, and accessories that a theatre show or film may need. We will be learning about recycling, and learning how to create imaginative things for theatre shows and Films. Preparation towards a VET certificate is optional. In-house certificate will be issued on successful completion of class and individual projects.

This is the class to sort out how to write music correctly, understand the symbols in music and how they work, listening and aural skills, note reading, and sort out other mysteries of theory of music. Ideal class to do before attempting Grade 1 theory class. Grade 1—8 Theory Classes All Ages. 1 Hour Materials fee $TBA

These classes are designed to introduce you to different aspects of theory. The course will be based on the Trinity College London workbooks, and aural training for that grade, although the basics can be altered to suit other examination systems. These theory classes have the optional to participate in the international Theory examinations for each grade twice a year, which is a separate fee.

Diploma TBC Minimum age 18. Materials fee: $TBA

These classes are designed to help guide those wishing to complete a diploma music of theory exam. Examples and teachings are based on Trinity College London Examinations but can be altered to suit other examination systems.
